Detailed Washing Instructions

  • Preparation: Turn your silk items inside out to protect the surface finish and remove any jewelry to avoid snags.

  • The Basin: Fill a clean basin with cool water (maximum 30°C/86°F).

  • Detergent: Add a few drops of a liquid detergent specifically formulated for silk. It must be pH-neutral, enzyme-free, and contain no bleaches or optical brighteners.

  • The Wash: Submerge the item and gently agitate the water with your hands to distribute the suds; do not rub or scrub the fabric.

  • Soaking: Limit soaking to a maximum of 3 to 5 minutes to prevent fiber weakening or color loss.

  • Rinsing: Drain the soapy water and rinse thoroughly in fresh, cool water until it runs clear and all soap residue is removed.

Detailed Drying Instructions

  • Removing Excess Water: After rinsing, do not wring or twist the silk, as this stretches and distorts the fibers. Gently press the water out against the side of the basin.

  • The Towel Roll Method: Lay the damp silk flat on a clean, light-colored absorbent towel. Roll the towel and silk together like a sushi roll and apply light pressure to blot out moisture.

  • Air Drying: Unroll and reshape the item. Lay it flat on a drying rack or hang it in a well-ventilated indoor area.

  • Shade Only: Always dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources (like radiators), which can fade colors and make the fibers brittle.

Detailed Ironing Instructions

  • Timing: For the best results, iron while the silk is still slightly damp. If the silk is dry, lightly mist it with cool, distilled water.

  • Setting: Use the absolute lowest heat setting (often labeled "Silk"). High heat can cause silk to yellow or scorch.

  • Protection: Iron on the reverse side (inside out). Always place a pressing cloth (such as a clean cotton pillowcase or muslin) between the iron and the silk to prevent direct heat contact and shiny marks.

  • Technique: Gently press and lift the iron rather than dragging it back and forth to avoid pulling the fabric. Keep the iron moving and avoid lingering in one spot for more than a few seconds.

  • Finish: Allow the silk to cool completely on a flat surface before folding or use to prevent immediate re-wrinkling.
